چکیده

We study the effects of the ionizing and dissociating photons produced by Pop III objects on the surrounding intergalactic medium. We find that the typical size of a H2 photodissociated region, Rd ≈ 1− 5 kpc, is smaller than the mean distance between sources at z ≈ 20− 30, but larger than the ionized region by a factor depending on the detailed properties of the emission spectrum. This implies that clearing of intergalactic H2 occurs before reionization of the universe is complete. In the same redshift range, the soft-UV background in the Lyman-Werner bands, when the intergalactic H and H2 opacity is included, is found to be JLW ≈ 10−10 erg cm s Hz. This value is well below the threshold required for the negative feedback of Pop III objects on the subsequent galaxy formation to be effective in that redshift range. The Positive Feedback of Pop III Objects on Galaxy Formation

We study the formation of molecular hydrogen in cooling gas behind shocks produced during the blow-away process thought to occur in the first collapsed, luminous (Pop III) objects in the early universe. We find that for a wide range of physical parameters the H2 fraction is f ≈ 6× 10 . The H2 mass produced in such explosions can exceed the amount of relic H2 destroyed inside the photodissociati...

Inhomogeneous Reionization Regulated by Radiative and Stellar Feedbacks

We study the inhomogeneous reionization in a critical density CDM universe due to stellar sources, including Population III objects. The spatial distribution of the sources is obtained from high resolution numerical N-body simulations. We calculate the source properties taking into account a self-consistent treatment of both radiative (i.e. ionizing and H2 -photodissociating photons) and stella...

The Fate of the First Galaxies. Ii. Effects of Positive Feedback on Population Iii Objects

We use 3D cosmological simulations with radiative transfer to study the formation and evolution of the first galaxies in a ΛCDM cosmology. The simulations include continuum radiative transfer using the “Optically Thin Variable Eddington Tensor” (OTVET) approximation and line-radiative transfer in the H2 Lyman-Werner bands of the background radiation. Chemical and thermal processes are treated i...

Radiation-Hydrodynamical Collapse of Pregalactic Clouds in the Ultraviolet Background

To elucidate the effects of the UV background radiation on the collapse of pregalactic clouds, we implement a radiation-hydrodynamical calculation, combining onedimensional spherical hydrodynamics with an accurate treatment of the radiative transfer of ionizing photons. Both absorption and scattering of UV photons are explicitly taken into account. It turns out that a gas cloud contracting with...
